As an Associate with the Emergency Planning College he is regularly contracted by the Cabinet Office to assist their work in delivering the following courses:
Working with the news media in emergencies where delegates learn to:
- describe how the media can be engaged with in emergency planning and exercising
- identify the key elements of co-ordinated plans and strategies that support interaction with the media
- examine case studies of working with the news media in emergencies and identify the associated lessons and good practice
- explain the legal context in which emergency authorities are required to operate and the legal and regulatory frameworks governing UK media
- anticipate and plan for the media response to a major emergency
- provide support and advice to those whose task is to communicate with the public through the media
- prepare press releases and interview briefings for senior officers and organise press conferences
Strategic Decision Making in Emergency Management where delegates learn to:
- use conceptual frameworks and case studies to analyse the vulnerability of organisations to emergencies, and their ability to manage and recover from them
- analyse and evaluate information to create a common recognised information picture, based on a shared understanding of a situation
- frame a strategic aim, strategies, main effort and supporting objectives under exercise conditions
- evaluate a range of decision-making models
- make effective strategic decisions in table-top exercises
- explain the role of the strategic level in the overall UK Concept of Operations
